What is a website?
The basis of all websites is HTML, a simple script language that allows text and graphics to be displayed on a web browser. As to how sophisticated a site needs to be, and what technology is used is entirely dependent on the website's purpose and target audience.

In most cases, a static website is perfectly suitable where information is being presented, and there is little involvement on the part of the viewer apart from reading. The website you are viewing right now, although appearing to be graphically heavy, is essentially a static HTML website.

Static websites are relatively easy to maintain, update and upgrade. They can incorporate animated buttons, graphics, images and other non-HTML elements such as Flash® animations, movies and special features. They are primarily suitable for situations where content is not often changed. In most cases, the content would require being emailed to the web master for inclusion onto the site. In the case of RNCM, this is usually within 24 hours.

So what's the procedure?
The typical process for the construction of a web site is:
  1. Initial design process: This may include a branding design process (see marketing), or using a clients existing ‘look’.

  2. Navigation and site plan mapping: Determining what pages will go where, and how menus will cross-link between them.

  3. Design Phase: Creation of usually 4-5 designs on flat artwork, often each with 2-3 colour variants.

  4. Collation of static content: This is generally provided by the client, preferably in simple unformatted text along with moderately high resolution images if required.

  5. Page construction: This is the point generally of no return, once all aesthetic design has been finalised.

  6. Upload to staging server: We provide a staging (test) area to allow the client to see the site taking shape and make any amendments as and if required.

  7. Finalising: Late fixes and “Go Live” launch. RNCM can provide domain names and site hosting if needed.

  8. Ongoing maintenance/updates: All RNCM web sites include 12 months support, upgrades and basic modifications.
